What Happened Of Pagerank ?

Recently, many popular sites and blogs found their Pagerank dropped. My favorite tech blog gHacks also drops from 5 to 3. It also posts an article that talk about this issue. I read an article from Dailyblogtips it lists some popular sites are dropping:

* Engadget (from 7 to 5)
* AutoBlog (from 6 to 4)
* Problogger (from 6 to 4)
* Copyblogger (from 6 to 4)

What happened of Pagerank? Some reports say that cause some big sites sell or exchange their huge links, and they got penalized. But some sites are not sell links their Pagerank are still dropped. Martin of gHacks says his website never sell links but he removed some paid links, he also sent mail to Google for recover original Pagerank. Some people talk about John Chow who sells links to earn big money. His site also dropped to 4.
My site is still 3, compare to these popular sites my site is stronger now (even web traffic is low). How about your site?
