Rasterbator is a web based poster maker that helps users make poster sheets, so people can print it, and put together in one big poster, up to 20 meters.
Actually, the process is not too difficult. First step is upload your image, it limits size 1MB. After that, choose sheets and other elements. It will calculate poster size and printed sheets. Last step is download a PDF file, so you can print sheets, it can be a whole poster.
Rasterbator also offers an application, you can download and use it without size/resolution limitation.
